As great as the Los Angeles area is, sometimes you just need to get away. By far, the best way to escape the daily bustle is with an old-fashioned road trip. There are plenty of Southern California road trips that can restore your sanity within a day or two. Of course, the best way to enjoy the open road is in a shiny new Nissan. Whether you choose the rugged Titan or the fuel-efficient Sentra, Fontana Nissan will help you experience sweet freedom.
Looking for a few road trip ideas? These jaunts are sure to put the wind in your hair and a smile on your face.
Not only is Palm Springs known for palm trees, but it’s also known for dinosaurs. Ones made of plastic and rubber, that is. Cabazon offers a collection of faux Jurassic beasts for your viewing pleasure. You can also peruse the gift store, located in the belly of a brontosaurus. Just think of how much dino swag you can fill your Nissan up with. Oh, and if that’s not enough, you can also sit in a T-Rex’s mouth. What more could you ask for?
Palm Springs is about 105 miles from L.A. According to timeout, you’ll want to spend at least a couple days there. Especially since you’ll spend a good amount of time gawking at the roadside dinosaurs.
The Trump Tower. Need we say more? In all seriousness though, Las Vegas offers something for everyone. From the bright lights of the strip, to a wide array of museums and attractions. A couple hidden gems (or lumps of coal, depending how you look at it) include the former Zzyzx Mineral Springs and Alien Jerky.
The former was created by a crooked radio evangelist in the 1940s to con people into thinking they were dipping in healing springs. In all reality, the springs weren’t any more mystical than your hotel pool – they were heated with boilers.
Alien Jerky is as weird as it sounds – and we mean weird for Vegas, which is really weird. The roadside attraction is built on an alien landing site. It offers everything an extraterrestrial could need, including jerky (as you probably guessed), nuts and candy.
If you’re hankering for some alien jerky, plan on driving your Nissan approximately 270 miles to get there. Stay for at least three days.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks
Nothing makes you feel like you’ve escaped Los Angeles more than a dose of natural beauty. That’s where the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks come in. These masterpieces of mother nature offer a bevy of attractions. Highlights include the tallest tree in the world and a fallen Sequoia tree you can drive your Nissan through. Of course, there’s a laundry list of outdoor activities including camping, backpacking and biking.
Pack up your Nissan Pathfinder and hit the road. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are only 235 miles away. You should plan on spending at least 3 days there, though you’ll probably never want to leave.
