In San Bernardino, full-size SUVs are a dime a dozen. As one of the most popular vehicle segments and with such diverse uses, SUVs continue to trend upward. However, there can only be one full-size SUV that has the best bang for your buck. And for 2017, the all-new Nissan Armada handily captures that victory.
It’s a completely new design for the 2017 Nissan Armada. A bottom-to-top makeover takes place not only on the outside, but on the inside and under the hood.
Those familiar with the new Nissan Titan will recognize the front end. The grille, hood, and headlight shapes mimic the Nissan pickup, albeit in a slightly smaller package. It’s an exemplary presence, much more dominating than other SUVs of the same size.
The low beltline creates a tall window opening along for amazing visibility, and chrome accents including louvers on the front fenders pop, looking rich and refined. At the rear, you’ll find LED taillights, matching the daytime running lights up front.
Climbing inside the cabin, you’re first taken aback by the incredible finish quality. Rich wood accents are well-placed on the dash, console and doors. When you’re driving the Nissan Armada, it’s nearly silent inside – touted as ‘Library quiet’ by Nissan, thanks to increased levels of sound insulation.
Smooth, wonderfully plush seats are welcoming for all three rows. For the SL and Platinum trim levels, heated front seats are standard, cutting the chill on cool mornings. With middle-row captain’s chairs, there’s seating for seven while a middle bench means room for eight occupants.
Regardless of the trim level, the 2017 Nissan Armada is exceptionally equipped. From the Bose premium audio system and Nissan Navigation system to rear sonar and tri-zone climate control, standard equipment on the SV trim level is stellar.
The SL trim level upsizes the wheels from 18-inch alloys to 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels for a dramatic exterior appearance. Inside, an Around-View Monitor adds a level of sophistication and safety while Remote Engine Start System increases the comfort level. The Technology Package can be added, which includes Intelligent Cruise Control, Distance Control Assist, Forward Emergency Braking, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Backup Collision Intervention.
The Platinum trim level makes the SL’s Technology Package standard equipment. To that, it adds standard-equipment power moonroof, tri-zone Entertainment System with dual 7-inch headrest displays, and heated and cooled front seats.
The all-new 2017 Nissan Armada does continue to use one item: an Endurance 5.6-liter V8 engine. However, power has been upped from 317 horsepower to 390hp, more than 20 percent more from the same displacement. It’s the extra power than boosts the Armada’s towing capacity to 8,500 pounds, along with its 7-speed automatic transmission.
All that horsepower is transmitted through either a 2-wheel-drive or 4-wheel-drive system. For those who require a little extra traction on loose gravel roads or mountain passes, the 4WD model is an excellent option.
